چکیده

Isolated traumatic rupture of the ventricular septum following blunt chest trauma is rare. We report the case of a patient who sustained blunt chest trauma in a motor vehicle collision. The isolated ventricular septal defect was not discovered by echocardiography until 12 days after accident. Perventricular closure of the defect was performed with occluder. The patient died from a complication of pulmonary aspergillosis. Autopsy findings supported the diagnosis of traumatic rupture of ventricular septum and substantiated a relation between ventricular septum rupture and the accident.

A ventricular septal rupture (VSR) is a rare complication and is variable in its presentation, temporal course and severity. Here, we report a rare case of 75-year-old man who developed delayed VSR following blunt chest trauma.

Traumatic ventricular septal rupture associated with rapid progression of heart failure despite low Qp/Qs ratio: a case report

BACKGROUND Ventricular septal rupture (VSR) secondary to blunt chest trauma is rare and associated with a diverse range of symptoms and clinical courses as well as disease severity. We present a case of traumatic VSR in which rapid progression of heart failure was observed in spite of relatively low pulmonary to systemic blood flow (Qp/Qs) ratio. CASE PRESENTATION A 40-year-old male was trans...

Isolated pericardial rupture with left-sided haematothorax after blunt chest trauma.

Pericardial rupture after blunt chest trauma is described in the literature. The rupture is mostly caused by high velocity trauma with associated injuries. As a result the patients are often critically ill. We describe a case of a 59-year-old man who suffered from an isolated pericardial rupture with a left-sided haematothorax diagnosed 3 months after minimal blunt chest trauma. The patient was...
